MINISTRIES & PARISH GROUPS

Altar Society

The Altar Society meets once a month on a Friday morning for cleaning, polishing, and dusting of the main church and the chapel. Also helps on a rotating basis with church linens.

Baptism Assistant

Baptisms are offered every 2nd Sunday of the month directly after the 11 a.m. mass. An assistant or a team of assistants will gather all that is needed for the baptism, and then assist at the baptism. An assistant meets with the parents before the baptism to review the meaning of baptism and what will happen during the ceremony.

Bocce

Bocce for men and women. Participants must be 18 years of age.
A fun team activity with the women playing on Monday evenings (must belong to the Rosary Guild). The men play on Tuesday evenings (must belong to the Catholic Men’s Club).

Resurrection Choir

The Resurrection Choir is a smaller group that sings at each funeral celebrated at Holy Rosary Church.  This group is opened to anyone that is available to serve at funerals. Come as your schedule allows.

Faith Formation

Volunteers are needed to help our children and teens learn the Catholic faith and grow in their relationship with God. Classroom teachers, aides, and youth group volunteers fulfill a very important role in the mission of our parish. Volunteers must have a background check and attend Safe Environment training.

Giving Tree

The Giving Tree is a program sponsored by the Rosary Guild of Holy Rosary Church during the month of December.  It serves children, seniors, homebound, homeless, disabled Veterans, and shelters. All of which are provided by charitable donations from our parishioners.

Lector

A lector proclaims the word of the Lord at Mass. You are invited to follow this call of our Lord. Lectors have a rotating schedule to read the Scriptures at the scheduled masses, and at other masses. Anyone with a willing spirit is welcomed and will be trained.

Prayer Shawl Ministry

Parishioners crochet or knit prayer shawls, lap blankets, hats for both children and adults. These items are donated to Smilow Center in Derby, the Hospice floor at Griffin Hospital, Constellation (a hospice division), and individuals going through an illness. Just phone and speak to Pat regarding the donation of a shawl, etc. One can also donate yarn or make a monetary donation.

Cub Scouts and
Boy Scouts

Young people, depending on their age, can join Pack 7 or Troop 7. The scouts are now open to boys and girls.

Altar Servers

Any child who has received
First Holy Communion is welcome to serve. Must attend a training session and then will be put on a mass schedule on a rotating basis.

Bereavement

Bereavement session’s mission is to open communication with others to help with the coping of a loss and to support the healing and nurture the emotional and spiritual well-being. The sessions are held on the 1st Monday of the month at 7 p.m.

Catholic Men’s Club

CMC meetings are held on the 1st Monday of each month at 7 p.m. The CMC promotes the spiritual welfare of its members and families. Some activities are: a yearly retreat, yearly family breakfast, take part in all parish activities, fund raisers, dances, dinners, breakfast with Santa in December, and an Easter Egg Hunt.

Eucharistic Adoration

Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament is a continuation of the worship we offer Jesus at Mass. Adoration is the key that opens the door to His Sacred Heart.  Come one come all. Eucharist Adoration in the Chapel is every Monday after the 8:00 a.m. mass. Come, pray, read, reflect, give your worries to Jesus and sit quietly. Commit one hour to help the chapel to stay open and receive the benefits. As Jesus asked, “Can you spend one hour with me?”

Festa

Holy Rosary Church has hosted its annual Italian Festa for over 50 years in early August (on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings from 5 – 10 p.m.)  Planning for such a big event goes on all year round. It is a time for us to come together to celebrate our heritage, our faith, and our community. It features delicious homemade Italian food, entertainment, and carnival rides for the children.

Hospitality Committee

Members volunteer to assist with the set-up, providing refreshments, serving, and cleaning up at designated events held in the church hall.

Family Coffee Weekend is held one weekend of each month. The duties are to purchase the refreshments (church reimburses the cost), make and serve the coffee and have hot water ready for tea for the end of the Saturday 4 p.m., and the Sunday 9 a.m., and the 11 a.m. masses.

Padre Pio Prayer Group

For many years, members of the prayer group have joined together monthly to pray for God’s grace through St. Pio’s powerful intercession. Specific prayer intentions include asking God to save souls, for the Pope, for priests, for suffering, souls in purgatory, for the poor and marginalized, and for the church in all her needs. Everyone is welcome to come on the First Friday of the month at 6 p.m. in the chapel with Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament at 7 p.m. following the novena prayers.

RCIA

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults. RCIA is a process of welcoming both non-Catholic, and Catholics who have not received the sacraments for full participation in the life of the church. Parishioners can assist in the Faith Journey of RCIA candidates, or be a sponsor to a candidate, or a prayer partner.

Angel Food Ministry

Angel Food Ministry brings a monthly meal to the Spooner House. Anyone can join to donate food or money. The food will be picked up from your home to deliver to the Spooner House.

Choir

The Choir meets (seasonally) on Tuesdays at 7 p.m. in the church for rehearsal. As a group the choir serves at one of the weekend masses, and various parish liturgies.

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion

Extraordinary Ministers assist the priest and deacon to distribute the Eucharist at Masses, and they bring Holy Communion to the housebound and those hospitalized.

Food Pantry

Donations are accepted every week. Liaisons will assist in organizing the donations and contacting the local Food Pantry for pick–up.

Knights of Columbus

All Catholic men are invited to participate in this international fraternal organization that does so much good, on the local and global level. For more information on how to become a Knight, contact a current member.

Parish Nurses

Parish Nurses are registered nurses who care for members of a parish or faith community. They integrate faith and healing to promote wellness within the community they serve. Parish Nurses volunteer at Family Coffee Weekend to take blood pressures.  People who aren’t nurses but would like to work in harmony with this ministry are welcome to contribute. We would like to expand this program to serve more of our elderly and homebound parishioners.

Rosary Guild

The Rosary Guild of Holy Rosary Church members promote the spiritual work of the Guild to assist members to participate more actively in the life of the church, to live faithfully by the commandments of God and precepts of the church, to assist in promoting social and wholesome recreational activities for the members. Women 18 years and older can join. It meets the 2nd Monday of the month.

Ushers/Greeters

Ushers/Greeters assist participants entering the church. The participants are greeted with a welcoming to mass, presented with a weekly bulletin, when necessary assist in seating. Ushers also monitor the collection basket as the weekly donation is offered, and ensure non-ambulatory parishioners receive Holy Communion during the Mass by notifying a Eucharist Minister of where they are seated. Any man, woman, teen, or mom/dad with children is welcome to participate.
